A Personal Approach to Web Design and SEO

When you work with Toad’s Island Productions, you deal directly with me. There’s no sales team, no outsourcing, and no account manager passing messages back and forth. Just clear communication and a practical approach to building websites that work properly and get found.

The goal is simple: create websites that look right, work well, and support your business.

How I Got Here

My background is in live music, as a composer, producer, and running a corporate drumming company in South Africa. I learned web design because I needed sites for those projects and nobody was going to build them for me.

It turned out I was good at it. People started asking, and I kept building.

I moved to the UK nine years ago and spent five of those in sales, which taught me plenty about how businesses actually win work, but not much about being creative. When someone asked me to rebuild their outdated website, and another client wanted a multi-tier membership and training platform, the decision made itself. I went freelance four years ago, and SEO followed naturally: there’s little point building a good site if nobody can find it.

Why Toad’s Island?

As a teenager, my friends called me Toad. When I needed a name for the various creative things I was doing, Toad’s Island became the umbrella, and it stuck.

It suits the way I work. Rather than operating like a large agency, the focus is on flexibility, problem-solving, and building websites that fit the client instead of forcing the client to fit the system. Every business is different, so every project should be treated that way.

It’s a small setup by design, which keeps projects personal and focused.

What I Help Businesses With

Most projects involve web design, web development, search engine optimisation, or improving existing websites, though the work often goes further. That can include membership sites, training platforms, custom forms, and ongoing website support.

The aim is to give small businesses the same flexibility and functionality larger companies have, without the cost or complexity of a big agency.

  • Web development
  • SEO support
  • Website audits
  • Membership and training sites
  • Ongoing updates and improvements

How Projects Usually Work

Most projects start with a conversation about what you need and what your website should achieve. From there the work is planned straightforwardly, with clear communication at each stage.

Some clients need a completely new website. Others just need improvements to what they already have.

There’s no pressure to commit to anything complicated. The goal is finding the right solution for your business.

Built for Small Businesses

I work mainly with small businesses, freelancers, and independent companies. Smaller businesses usually need flexible, practical solutions rather than expensive, over-engineered systems. That’s why the approach here is straightforward and honest, built around what actually helps your business move forward.

Simple when possible, flexible when needed.
